How sustainable is Pinqponq?
The sustainable backpacks are developed using a resource-saving manufacturing process . This means that the materials used by PINQPONQ consist of 100% recycled PET bottles .
At the same time, PINQPONQ avoids toxic chemicals in favor of environmentally friendly alternatives . For example, the label completely avoids PFC. PFC is used in the textile industry primarily to impregnate outdoor clothing. It is highly water and dirt repellent and would therefore be ideal for the production of backpacks. Of course, that doesn't mean that the backpacks aren't water-repellent in addition to the advantages mentioned above .
Sustainable backpacks without chemicals
PINQPONQ uses the chemical neoseed from nicca instead of PFC and other harmful substances. This chemical imitates the so-called lotus effect. The water forms into round droplets that gently roll off the backpack. The vegan leather is also covered with a water-based polyethylene (PU) layer . Water-based PU has the advantage that no fossil raw materials are required for production and are therefore more environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
PINQPONQ also pays attention to the environment when dyeing the backpacks made from recycled PET bottles . The company uses spun-dyed fibers. The color pigments are added to the material mass in the initial phase of production. This means that the fiber immediately has the desired color. Solution-dyed fabrics have the advantage that the color penetrates the entire fiber, making the colors more intense, more resistant to UV radiation and more durable.
Additionally, the dyeing process for solution-dyed fabrics is water-free as the pigments are added directly during yarn production. This means that less wastewater is produced and fewer chemicals are released . These fabrics are ideal for direct sunlight, heavy snow and rain - so perfect for backpacks.
